CLIMATE CHANGE

For our first day back we had to do research into climate change. We selected three main topics as majority of sub topics came under these three:

PUBLIC HEALTH – Pollution, water scarcity and overpopulation

WASTE DISPOSAL – Land fills, waste in the ocean and burning of trash

LOSS OF BIODIVERSITY – Decline of the variety of life, deforestation, loss of habitats and lead to extinction

We did research into all three topics for our POWERPOINT and separated the issues with their solutions into two categories, PUBLIC HEALTH and ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

PUBLIC HEALTH

Climate change affects the air we breathe. The air quality can worsen when the temperature increases. Wildfires can pollute the air with the smoke as well as factories and vehicles.

Deforestation reduces the amount of oxygen making it harder for us to breath, also as the population increases the amount of carbon dioxide increases.

Extreme weathers can affect transport routes, and cause power outages which affect hospitals and transport systems.

As populations increase the food and water we have available will decrease. The more pollution in the air the more it will affect crops and lead to undernutrition. The extreme temperatures can lead to droughts

The risk of heatstroke increases due to weather extremes which can also affect humans as well as plantations.

ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Waste is disposed of ineffectively which affects the oceans and sealife and the environment overall.

Biodiversity decreases as people are destroying nature for land expansion.

Deforestation destroys animal habitats leading to extinction of species and make others endangered.

A lot of non biodegradable products are made and dumped which affects wildlife and the environment for thousands of years.

Hurricanes can be more intense and the arctic is likely to become ice free.
